So
it is official that Brie Larson will be Captain Marvel, I knew that I
should have make my campaign of Jaime Pressly for Captain Marvel. You
can’t deny that it would be awesome to watch Jaime Pressly flying and
with super strength, also could deliver jokes during fighting scenes.
But Brie Larson will be fine I guess, Marvel has great castings so far.
And
well, I said that there is people complaining about the Wonder Woman
poster, I heard people saying "they hide her face and we only see her
body" "her face is too dark and we can't see it" "it says 'Grace'" Well
let's see the posters of the other DC movies.
As you can see
they give you the figure of the super hero but darkened and only
something specific to look, what is iconic of them. Superman
we have the "S" on hes chest and a glimpse of red cape, and that's
pretty much it because they changed a lot the costume, Batman we have a
dark lump with pointy ears, but we have lots of batman movies so we can
figure that out, then we have Wonder Woman, that what is iconic is the
suit, the colours the lasso, the bracers, but not the actress, Gal Gadot
is not wonder woman, like Christian Bale is not batman and that guy is
not Superman.
I suppose that is because is the first movie of
the character and we don't know them so are like in shadows because they
are in the unknown, or maybe they liked that way and I'm over-analyzing
this.
And to the people that complain about it says "Grace"
well Wonder Woman is a graceful fighter, she trained all her life for
combat so she is like the Gretzky of hand to hand combat, while Superman
is clumsy, and only brute force, and Batman is sneaky, but you are not
going to put that on their posters.
Also people asking for
another poster... Are you kidding me?! Is a Comic Book Movie!! we will
have at least 4 different posters for the movie and one for each
character with lines on the movie, so hold your horses on that one too.
To
most people yesterday's episode high point of Game of Thrones was the
one with the Dragons, and yes it is always nice to see Dragons doing
Dragon stuff but to me the high point was to see Lyanna Mormont at the
talk with Ramsey.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
(AKA: How to kill a cinematic universe)
By now I think that everybody have seen this movie and if you don’t I
don’t care, because I saw it the opening weekend and I have been saving
this review for some time now so here it comes, also some spoilers but
you know, the trailers spoil it first.
This movie wasn’t the best comic book movie I saw that day! I mean in
order was Flash point paradox, Scott Pilgrim vs The World and way at the
bottom Batman v Superman. I mean this movie has everything against,
starting by Snider.
This movie is the sequel to “Man of steel”
also knows as” Space Jesus goes crazy and stuff” why I think is weird
because is a sequel to Superman and his name goes second on the title
but, why? Anyhow here we see the world being afraid of Superman because
he is very powerful and takes no one’s crap like a sassy black woman.
Well the US is super into make Superman swear that is al pro USA but
this guy says “meh!”
Then we have Batman that by some reason
now decided to kill people and raise mayhem in Gotham city destroying
half the city on his tank, after 3 movies saying he doesn’t want to kill
anybody and be like a ninja and work in the shadows. Also he has
himself let go and looks fat, People will say “he is not fat is buff”
but face it if you have to do all those acrobatics every night you get
skinny. So this guy hates Superman because he destroyed not only the
Wayne building but also destroyed the Wayne satellite. I mean one thing
is destroying the building, he owns the construction company, demolition
and cleaning city. But the satellite? He has to pay a third party to
put it up in space, and that was not cheap. Anyway Batman is in this
movie because he is afraid of Sup to so he says that if there is one
chance that superman goes on a crazy rampage we have to kill it now, you
know the American way, kill him before he can even be a threat.
Then we have Alexander Luthor, son of a better character Lex Luthor
that is not in this movie but we have his son, some kind of mental
patient that has the same sickness that Peewee Herman. You know acting
like a child and flapping their extremities randomly all the time, and
chronic masturbation. By some reason he wants Superman dead, why who
knows and wants Batman to do it why? Well… who am I his mother he just
does, there is no motivation. Also has a plan b but that is later in the
movie. Also you can picture Luthor running around in his underwear
throwing shit at the walls and his character doesn’t changes at all.
Well I was looking forward to this movie because I like comic books
since forever, and well Batman Superman is the classic fight, the dark
brooding guy versus the upbeat always smiling demigod, but here we have
the psychopath homicidal versus the psychopath homicidal that dress like
a bat. There is no contrast, nobody is a good guy, you see the 3 sides
of the story (Batman, Superman and Luthor) and there is no way you can
agree 100% with any of them. Superman is an egomaniac that think his way
is the only way, Batman is a psychopath that believes that genocide is
an answer to a problem, and Luthor thinks that you can turn off a fire
by throwing gasoline to it. On the other hand those 3 are the American
way :S
Then again here we see that Batman is the dumbest
character in the film, because everybody can outsmart him, and his only
way to get information is by brute force, so detective like.
But don’t worry there are more character each more wonderful than the
other, Wonder Woman is more like a foot note here in the story than a
character with like 7 lines of dialog, and Lois Lane again has the power
to be where ever the plot demands it. Jimmy Olsen, that’s right there
is Jimmy Olsen here, is the guy at the beginning of the film that gets
killed execution style well that what you get for being “Superman’s pal”
he will save you but if Lois is in trouble you are on your own. No
matter that he is faster than a speeding bullet.
The film
follows the 3 storylines (if you can call them that) people say it is
confusing but it is not, is just very bad writing and lots of omissions
because they didn’t knew how to make the plot work. Seriously this movie
is like connect the dots the writer decided to not do his work and
leave it to you to fill the blanks, but not in the good way of a mystery
movie more like a script made by an eight years old, not a very
talented one.
There are not enough backstory in the characters
to want to kill each other more than they are like rabid dogs and want a
good opponent. Is more like a dick measuring contest than a fight for
their ideals.
The way people act in this movie is so far from
reality that ruins the flow of it. By some reason the broadcaster of the
news says that a pedophile that batman tagged got beat up in jail and
says that it was likely because batman drew on him, but if you know
anything of jail you’ll know that happens to those criminals in jail.
The people in the Wayne tower didn’t ran scared and evacuate the
building the moment the fight broke or when it got close or even when it
started to collapse. This means one of two things or people in
Metropolis are really stupid or Wayne industries are some of the worst
employers in the world, something like:
-Sir can I leave early?
-Why?
-Because some alien spaceship is destroying the city.
-If I let you leave then everybody will want to go out early and these memos will not be delivered.
-But sir…
-No buts, and if I even see you leave your cubicle to go to the toilet I’ll take it as your resignation. NOW BACK TO WORK!
One thing that bothers me the most and nobody is talking is that in Man
Of Steel they said that the atmosphere was what give Superman his
powers, I didn’t care much and they work with it during Man of Steel
making that they wore space suits in earth and superman loosed his
strength when boarded their ship. But here Superman gets a hit from a
nuclear missile and then the sun lights him and he gets his powers back.
The guy was in space, no atmosphere there the sun gave him the powers,
so what was it the sun or the atmosphere? I don’t like the lack of
continuity in a story.
In the final battle they are like “we
need Kryptonite to kill Doomsday” but if you pay attention Wonder Woman
was doing a fine job by herself, I mean I Batman would have shot one gas
bullet to Doomsday she could have cut him in pieces, I mean she cut
Doomsday arm when he was fighting full power, so here Wonder Woman is
more powerful than Superman, or at least this is how it looked.
The simple Idea that they used Doomsday is ridiculous, because one
thing that I think nobody got it from Doomsday is that he is not a
character, he is not a villain he is an event is the end of an era. The
idea of Doomsday was, out with the old and bring the new wave, that’s
why the death of Superman wasn’t by Lex Luthor or Brainiac or Darkseid
not even the Jocker, but one character that was created just for that
purpose, and that is the point that he died just after killing Superman
because his job was done, no need for a reboot anytime soon, but why
would you do that in your second movie where you want to start
everything? The death of superman should be when all the world love him
and depend on him to save us, but here half the planet hated him and
wanted him dead, in the death of superman Lex Luthor laments Superman’s
death. But here technically he killed him.
This was more like an amalgam of trailers to show you the DC universe that now is dying and in panic mode, than a movie.
One thing that bother me the most is that all DC fanboys are attacking
Marvel and defending this movie with one simple line “Well I like it and
you can’t make me change my mind” “Or “DC makes more adult movies than
Marvel”. Well I can’t argue with the people that likes the movie just
because they like it. But to the people that say DC makes more adult
movies they are here for a good beating. First Marvel makes the whole
spectrum, there are silly and fun movies in marvel but then you have
movies like “The Winter Soldier” where you get deeper understanding of
the characters, the way how politics work, corruption and a lot of
themes that are wrapped in a superhero movie versus an adolescent
fantasy poorly written with more holes than a mine field. DC movies are
not more adult just because they are dark and brooding, in fact that
makes them childish like the kid in middle school wearing a T-shirt with
a skull, that isn’t adult nor cool is just proper for his age. Adult
means well written stories and deep themes with introspection and
evolution.
I’m not a fanboy and what I would love is good
movies from both universes, I think that DC is making a good job with
the animated universe and the TV Universe (except for Supergirl but that
is a complete different post) but the movies are still ashamed that are
comic book movies and try to make it different than the comics so
mixing reality and comics but without knowing how either work, so we get
this kind of movies.
You can see DC is in panic mode because
they are changing the dates of their movies and Suicide Squad is going
through massive and very expensive reshoots. But that is normal, right?
The point is that DC haven’t realized that they are the other big comic
books company in the world, not number 2 but the other number 1, and are
reacting like a bunch of scared toddlers, when they should have be
going to their own rhythm and following the line of their own comics and
not trying to reinvent what has been going for more than 60 years.
The movie is boring, makes no sense, have like 12 minutes of action,
the characters are poorly written, the direction is horrible, the
photography is worse, and have a ton of plot holes. But you are going to
watch it if you haven’t seen it already.
** 2 stars out of 5 Bad movie but people is going to watch it, just because.
I know I skipped a day, well sue me! I had things to do, but here it is, the last of the nominees.
Mad Max: Fury Road
AKA: Mad Max 3 (Thunder Dome is not part of Mad Max)
And last but not least we get to the ending of this bunch of movies,
and we save the best for last. Yes this is the best movie of the 8
nominated, and I really think is the best of the year. It has everything
cars, explosions, great characters, an acting so great that doesn’t
need to much dialog, great camera, great editing, great music happening
in the actual film, everything!
What I can say about this movie
that hasn’t been said? Is just great some people complain about Max
that he almost doesn’t talk, well that shows how little you know about
him, he distances from the rest of the world he just keeps going and
survive this world, if he can do good that is fine, he is the road
warrior.
The movie is just action some say, but is more like an
action story, you don’t need dull moments, romantic interests, and
other stuff to deliver a fun movie with depth. Yes is no Citizen Kane
but is the Citizen Kane of action films.
This is not a
handholding film, it starts into the action and you have to catch up
with what is happening. But outside of all of that is very friendly to
watch, because different to all the Michael Bay movies here the action
is centered and in the center of the shot is always the important matter
your eyes don’t have to look for what is happening but it is delivered
to them.
The music and sound mixing goes perfect with what
you’ll expect you hear the voices perfectly and understand the dialogs,
also the music wraps every moment and reflects the mood and actions in a
very accurate way. Remember “it’s not too loud you are too old” 
:P
Every character and every vehicle has its own personality, the way they
look they act and react and everyone is memorable. And deals with very
serious problems in a very realistic way in a surreal world what gets
you even more into the movie, gets the mentality of people and how to
react to abuse and the need to escape and be free and even actually how
some people would prefer the golden cage to the real world.
Some say the actors don’t say anything, and that is not acting. But that
is people that don’t know what acting is. Acting is not just deliver
lines like a recorder, you act with your whole body, your way to react
to every moment, and if you can fill a scene with just one movement of
your hand, a look or simply walking away, that is the sign of a great
actor, here you have actors that with just one word or even one look the
whole scene is theirs. And the movie plot advances with those few lines
and the characters develop just with their actions.
A best
picture is not some drama, or a true story made picture, is one that the
script is great, the direction was great, the actors delivered an
awesome performance, the art department brought to life the world of the
movie, the music transmitted you the exact feelings of each scene
without you notice it but at the same time you got out of the movie
humming the music, everything should be a perfect match, so much that
you want to watch that movie again, thing that doesn’t happen that
often.
If you think that all the good scenes are in the trailer
you are dead wrong, the complete movie is great and has an ending
worthy of Mad Max, because the only rest for the road warrior is the
road and keep moving.
I know that lots of people will not even
put it on their netflix cue because will never pass the point were they
think is an action movie, and can see pass that, I'm so sorry for you,
you'll never see things deep enough to find the sublime world.
Again I say this is the best movie of the year and everybody should watch it several times.
***** 5 stars out of 5 because that is the top give the Oscar to this guy!
Room
AKA: Resume your life where you left it is not that easy.
Is good to see good Canadian movies getting some recognition,
especially if they are made with lots of brains a good script and a
shoelaces budget.
This movie
show that you don’t need to stick to conventions to make a great movie
nor make it super dark and disturbing to show a very dark story, for
this I applaud.
When I heard of this movie I thought that it
would be all the attention on the kidnaping and the abuse like all of
those movies that just show you the worst of human kind and with
infinite unbearable scenes of crying, but instead I got a good movie
about life, strength and growth.
This movie don’t take the easy
way to try to move your emotions and feelings, this movie gives you
time to care for the characters, understand the situation and feel what
they feel, and I appreciate all of that, because in a world where
everybody just want to see the horrible and jump straight to the action
here we have a movie that, yes starts in the problem, but it takes its
time to unwrap what is happening and where is it going.
The
script is good all the characters are well developed and have very human
reactions to everything that happens, al situations are very real and
you can see everybody’s point of view just shifting a little your
attention, there is a narrator but is not quite it, just adds some
colour to the world and the movie and fill some spaces with what almost
feels like poetry, which is nice.
The kid is a great actor, at
least doing his part (to me a great child actor is one that doesn’t
ruins his scenes). I mean this movie shows you a normal kid, how he
reacts, plays, and lives life, you see the world through his eyes, and
really feel is a real kid living it, one thing that “Boyhood” could not
accomplish even in 12 years interacting with that kid. In short, great
kid.
The movie is more about dealing with a situation, trying
to re take your life after something like this and the shock with the
world than the actual kidnaping and it succeed at all of this.
Is a good movie not the best of the year but very recommendable.
**** 4 stars out of 5 watch it.
The Big Short
AKA: Rich white people getting richer and whiter.
Is this the year of the movies inspired by true events?
A movie about why are we all broke and some rich white people are even richer, great! I don’t hate the world enough as it is 
:D
This movie follows the collapse of the markets that happened a few
years ago and how some people got richer with it. It sounds great, and
super fun. It might be informative if you don’t have my Dad or someone
like him to explain it as it was happening. To me just was to see the
inside of it with pretty people wearing the hair a little messed up.
If you dissect the movie as I always do with the movies that I don’t
get into it you can see a lot of things, like: The horrible editing, is
not a movie but like 4 short films tied by nothing but an event, the
horrible camera direction, and the poor choosing of ways to explain
things.
So let’s get cracking one by one, wouldya?
Editing: to me editing is important, because I love to do it and feel
the rhythm of the scenes the shots everything, but here it looks like
the first time someone with no experience uses Windows movie maker to
get a hang of it, to see what happens if I do this or that, there are
jumps in the editing that would never have pass the AV Club of a high
school, there are switches in the format of the screen what makes you
pull away from the movie faster than a cat from a red hot grill. Then
there are blackouts that stay for more than 10 seconds, other horrible
thing to do. There is no pacing to the scenes, and the jump between one
story and the other are just that, jumps. The mix with photos and music
videos is horrible, I mean you have already a super budget to hire all
those people why not make a freaking musical to get in the middle of
stuff with the theme of the movie and blend it better, instead of having
those visual attacks they called editing.
Is just 4 short
films: It happened to “Cloud Atlas”, “Chronicle” and some others, just
make a bunch of short films and put them together and you have a movie,
this is very real in this one, if you see no story affects the other,
they just go around doing their thing and trying to get richer, and
trying to understand how all of that works, what is kind of stupid
because it is supposed that they work with that all the time. Yes they
discovered that there was more risk there but they needed to be
explained everything, except for Christian Bale, but that is because he
is the only real person of the story the rest where made up.
The camera: if you have ever grabbed a camera or at least shoot
something with your phone you might know that is quite difficult to keep
the camera till, because of your pulse or because your eyes wondered
and your hands follow them and you started tilting before noticing and
had to correct, but that is why in Hollywood they have Tripods to make
smooth moves and stay still if we need it. But here the camera wonders
from one place to the other and it make zooms just because, sometimes
feels like a cheap reality show more than an expensive movie, mix that
with the horrible editing and you get a no very enjoyable movie made by a
6 year old that grabbed your phone and thought it was a movie.
The explanations: As I said, back in the day when all of this was
happening my Dad explained to me and I got it, but here the writer
thought “People is dumb and they just listen to celebrities” so they
make explanations the way they though it was easier for people, but just
ended stupid and too dumbed down. Yes I have no doubt that some people
in the US need that level of stupidity on their explanations but they do
it in such a messy way that I’m sure most of the people didn’t got it.
If you want to see complex themes explained in an easy way watch “Bill
Nye The Science Guy” or “Beakman’s World” Even professor I.M. Boring was
better explaining things. Because you need someone that masters the
theme, likes it and loves to teach about it, you need someone with
passion about it to transmit it. And Selena Gomez and the rest of
celebrities just repeat like parrots and don’t care about it. They could
have made a bracket like they did but like “the corner of economics:
with Bill” got it? Bill because of the dollar bills, no? Not clever
enough? Or something like that with someone that actually knew what was
talking about. Also someone else besides the writer should had written
the all the explanations because they sound like from text books of
“Economics 101”. The other part that jumped to me was the narrator, that
first talks to you in a way that is telling you “you are too stupid to
know how money works” and second, I suspect they use it to make it more
hip, and ended just plain annoying. Any way as I said I got that class
before with my Dad so good luck to the rest of the world.
The
only good thing on the movie to me was the point that Brad Pitt say,
again our magical white man that can do everything, and that is that if
this happens, yes you are going to be rich but lots of people are going
to lose their houses. And that is true. But then again is just one
moment in a 2 hour movie, not worthy to hear something that already
happened.
If you haven’t figured this out this movie goes to
the horrible pile, which is more like a shredder than a pile, but on the
bright side only one from the 6 so far so we are better than other
years.
* 1 star out of 5 the only reason it doesn’t make less
is because it tries to teach something but better study economics and
the markets, I think that is more fun.
